Western Prince was the first Whale Watching & Wildlife Tour operator on San Juan Island to use Biodiesel. We power the “Western Prince II” exclusively with B20, a 20% blend of Biodiesel and Petroleum Diesel. Although the cost for Biodiesel is significantly higher, we feel that it is our duty to help protect the magnificent environment we operate in. We are happy to be a leader in adopting the use of this alternative fuel.

The use of Biodiesel B20 reduces Unburned Hydrocarbons (smog/ozone) by 21%, Particulate Matter (respiratory disease) by 10%, and Carbon Monoxide (toxin) by 11%. The foul smelling diesel exhaust fumes that can make some passengers ill are significantly reduced as well.

Biodiesel is produced from vegetable oil meaning it is a truly renewable resource. In its pure form it is 10 times less toxic than table salt and 100% biodegradable. To learn more, check out www.biodiesel.org.
